SPX Baptisms
Welcoming New Life
At Saint Pius X, we joyfully welcome children into the Church through the Sacrament of Baptism. To ensure reverence, clarity, and unity, the following policy applies to all baptismal requests.
1. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
In order to have a child baptized at St. Pius X, at least one of the following conditions must be met:
The family is registered and active parishioners of Saint Pius X.
The family has at least one child currently enrolled at Saint Pius X Catholic School.
A valid pastoral reason is provided for requesting baptism at Saint Pius X (subject to approval by the Pastor).
The Child to be baptized is age seven or older, in which case the parents must contact the Church Office for separate sacramental preparation requirement.
2. SCHEDULING THE BAPTISM
Baptisms are normally celebrated during the 10:30 AM Mass on the 2nd or 4th Sunday of the month.
Exceptions may be made for serious reasons, but are discouraged, as baptism is an action of the whole parish and is most properly celebrated during the main parish Mass.
On occasion, multiple children may be baptized during the same liturgy. Families will be informed in advance.
All scheduling and documentation is handled through the Church Secretary in the parish office.
3. GODPARENT REQUIREMENTS
Each child must have at least one godparent who is
A practicing Catholic in good standing.
Confirmed, and living a life of faith.
If the godparent is not a registered parishioner of Saint Pius X, a Letter of Good Standing from their home parish must be submitted to Saint Pius no later than 14 days prior to the scheduled baptism.
4. PARENTAL COMMITMENT AND THE MEANING OF BAPTISM
By requesting baptism, parents affirm their intention to:
Raise their child in the Catholic faith
Attend Mass every Sunday and on Holy Days of Obligation
Cathechize and form their child in the life of the Church
Through the Sacrament of Baptism:
The soul enters the life of grace.
The door is opened to the other sacraments.
The child is welcomed into a specific parish, a visible expression of the universal Church.
