The Eucharist
The Eucharist is not a symbol — it is the true Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ.
In the spirit of love and devotion, I offer the following reminders to help us approach Holy Communion with hearts and minds prepared:
State of Grace
Anyone conscious of mortal sin should go to Confession before receiving Communion. Confessions are heard before every regularly scheduled Mass, six days a week.
Eucharistic Fast
Please remember to fast from food and drink (including gum and mints) for one hour before Communion.
Because Our Lord remains present in the Tabernacle, silence should be observed in the Church before and after Mass. Our vestibule is available is available for conversation and fellowship.
Sacred Silence
Reception of Communion
You may receive either the Sacred Host or from the Chalice, both contain the full Presence of Christ. Receiving both is not required.
Receiving on the tongue is preferred, as it minimizes the risk of particles of the Sacred Host being lost. If you choose this method, kindly open your mouth fully and extend your tongue.
If receiving in the hand, use both hands - one flat, placed over the other - and consume the Host immediately, carefully, and reverently, without walking away.
If your hands are occupied (e.g., carrying a child or cane), please receive on the tongue.
The Eucharist is never to be taken, only received. No one may break the Host apart except the minster.
