ACADEMICS

At St. Pius X Catholic School, we believe every child is uniquely created by God and called to grow in knowledge, virtue, and confidence. Our academic approach blends a strong foundation in core subjects with purposeful enrichment opportunities, helping students think critically, communicate clearly, and joyfully discover the world God created.

A Well-Rounded Curriculum

Student practicing cursive handwriting

Students engage each day in rigorous instruction in Religion, Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Weekly enrichment in Art, Music, and Library supports creativity, discipleship, and lifelong learning. Our dedicated faculty provide an environment where students are known, encouraged, and challenged to do their best.

We also value the enduring skills that help students become careful, confident communicators. Students in PreK through second grade receive handwriting instruction, with second-grade students learning cursive. Students in grades 5–8 receive Latin instruction, building vocabulary, strengthening their understanding of language, and introducing them to an important part of the Catholic Church’s intellectual and liturgical tradition.

Science-Based Literacy Instruction

Teacher providing literacy instruction to students

Strong reading skills are the foundation of academic success. Our Kindergarten and first-grade teachers are trained and certified in Phonics First®, an Orton-Gillingham-based approach that develops confident, fluent readers through explicit, systematic instruction in phonics, spelling, and decoding.

Our second- and third-grade teachers are completing Phonics First® training during the 2026–2027 school year, extending this structured approach across the early elementary grades and supporting continuity as students grow in their reading and writing skills.

Resource & Learning Support

Student participating in the learning support program

We are committed to meeting students where they are and helping them grow. Our Resource Program provides targeted academic support, ensuring students with identified learning needs receive small-group or individualized instruction that reinforces classroom learning and builds confidence.

Working closely with classroom teachers and families, our resource program helps students develop strong study skills, self-advocacy, and a sense of achievement in their learning.

Purposeful Technology Integration

Technology is an undeniable part of everyday life for our students, shaping how they learn, communicate, and solve problems. At St. Pius X Catholic School, we embrace these tools in a balanced and intentional way. We remain grounded in a strong, person-centered academic tradition while also ensuring our students gain the digital competencies needed for the future.

Through shared classroom iPads, students have opportunities to explore technology as creators and critical thinkers, always guided by purpose, integrity, and curiosity.

Faith at the Heart of Learning

Students participating in Catholic faith formation

Every subject is taught through the lens of our Catholic faith, helping students recognize the beauty of truth, goodness, and God’s presence in the world. Regular opportunities for prayer, Mass, and service deepen their understanding and shape daily learning.

In this way, academic excellence and spiritual growth go hand in hand, forming young people who are prepared for high school and for a lifetime of faithful discipleship.
